Characters

Yesterday in preparation for the event in November, I went and started creating my characters and profiling them. Which, isn't very easy.

As I said on another blog...

It's a little weird to sit down and create people out of thin air to make a story come to life, some characters to love and others to hate; who do I want my audience to root for and who do I want them to dislike?  What are their names, jobs, hobbies, likes, what is their family like, what cars do they drive?

In most cases, I look to people I am related to, associate with, have worked with or have had causal contact with. However for me, family is very inspiring. It is also a source of amusement and wonderment :) I can honestly say my family is a great inspiration, even in the worst of times we still have an amazing faith system (despite being multi-denominational) and an amazing humor. Yes, even in death. We mourn, cry, laugh, smile and love. Despite all, we love.

I know it might not be original to use family or friends, but I believe this story would greatly benefit from them. It is actually because of my family this story came to be.

This story only had a working title the night before I left for California, which was on 8/24/2011. I had learned a week earlier my aunt died. Then, as I cried, I remembered that I had wanted to go back "home" to visit. All through the packing, the tears, the jewelry making therapy ... I found solace in writing. Tuesday night I scribbled some notes on a piece of paper, stuck it in my story notebook and headed to California. I didn't get a chance to write, as there were too many people in the household, but I re-connected with my family and found profound comfort during the process.

Though my last night there--I needed a hotel, lol. That is another story for another time though.

Writing has always been therapeutic or cathartic; so I've been the only reader. I hope this will be the time to turn it around and share it with everyone.

I will be fine-tuning the characters in the coming days, then moving on to a fun, but not so fun task of outlining the story. I enjoy telling the story and I have a pretty good idea of how I want to get there, but I have never been good at "outlining", even for school papers. For me, it is a difficult task.

There is a lot of love and time going into this project, I hope when it is completed everyone loves it as much as I loved telling it..

Light, love and Bless!!

Marie
